Thing 23: Feedback

Well, I've finally finished The 23 Things- got a bit sidetracked! It has been a very interesting experience looking at lots of different technologies.
I have been talking to students in information literacy classes about RSS feeds using the databases that Chisholm Library subscibes to.
I enjoyed customising my Google page and will probably continue to "tweek" it.
I am not much of a blogger so I don't expect to continue with that except if I was "overseas" (like Charles!)
If there was another program offered, yes I would participate in it as I must keep abreast of all new technologies eg "Twitter"!

Thing 22: Read about Library 2.0

After perusing the literature it is clear that Library 2.0 is very much about social networking with a two way flow of information from the library to the user and vice versa. Librarians need to know about the latest information tools that users may be using as this is an expectation of the cliental. This is especially apparant with younger users. Library services also need to be constantly updated to reflect this.

Thing 21: Create an iGoogle Homepage

I found this to be a fun exercise, adding and deleting items of interest to me on my own Google homepage. The fact that you can change it at any time is extremely appealing.

Thing 14: Technorati

I have had a look at Technorati but I don't think it is someting I would use again. I feel you have to be a serious blogger and I am not- at this stage anyway!

Read about wikis and Edit a Wiki

Interesting use of Wikis across the Library World. Using them for such areas as Subject Guides and "How to" instructions allows easy access by anybody around the world- except for such things as Electronic Resources.

I enjoyed editing our Library Wiki - I tried to jazz it up with some overseas photos! I think it would be very useful to have one for Chisholm Library staff to enable us to share thoughts and ideas.

Google Book Search

I quite enjoyed playing with this, although I have used it before. It is very useful for previewing books especially if they are expensive and money is a consideration!

Google Docs

This would be useful as an extra place to save documents as well as a USB or instead of a USB seeing as you can access it from any computer. Would be good for group work. It is certainly useful if you don't have Microsoft Office.
